f/2.8 was the first shop that Ryul opened in April 2013 on Broadway. It was mainly themed around simply coffee and books, taking inspiration from vintage French bookstores and modern minimalism. Slowly, he started to inject his own personality into the store, starting with simple chair additions. When Eddie came on board, he brought with him knowledge from his previous experience in the design industry, and together they worked on bigger projects, such as creating their own furniture and decor. This steady and constant improvement through the years, and the inbuilt desire to one-up themselves every time, would become the reason for the unique design and character of the cafe today.

Ryul and Eddie came across an old and well-known cafe known as the “Grind & Gallery Coffee Bar” on Main St. Unfortunately, they had come into a rut over the years. So Ryul and Eddie made the decision to buy and revitalize the cafe, repurposing it into the motorbike-themed jazz cafe that it is today, paying strong homage to the jazz scene of ‘50-’70. To stay true to these identities, Aperture f/1.2 holding a jazz night on Saturday nights, as well as hosting the “Cafe Moto” Club, a group shares our passions.
